When I received it my husband set it up for me (I had weak hands that day), it comes in a box and is wrapped with the front (where the drawing pad is) on the back; easy assembly, even without direction, and the wing nuts are easy to tighten. I put my largest notepad (18 x 12) on it and it stayed in place with no problems. There is enough space for pencils or your favorite brushes on the easel in front of the paintings, as I show in one of the pics (I don't keep my brushes there, 9 times out of 10 they're wet so not good). space for them in my case).
