Almost all of these are easy to test once you're inside, but gas coils don't seem to have a simple electrical test like resistance. From what I have read the gas coils should be replaced when the dryer starts and initially shows a burning flame but does not reignite (even with the igniter lit) when the thermostat cycles the heat on and off as the drying cycle progresses . The end result is that the cycle ends but the clothes are cold and damp. The coils were very easy to swap out. On my dryer, all I had to do was remove the bottom front panel (held with clips) to have enough access to remove the old gas coils and install the new ones. You no longer have to open the dryer or remove the drum.
