I often can't get out a colander and just drain pots of pasta etc by keeping the lid ajar when emptying the sink. But of course the steam can burn, the pot usually does not drain completely and sometimes the food falls into the sink. I saw Jacques Pepin in a video using something like this gadget and I thought yes this is exactly what I need. As an adult who has been cooking for many years, I have never seen anything like it! It's not the same as in the video, but it works great. I love it!
