EDIT. I want to elaborate on what happened to it, I threw it away a few months later. I really, really wanted to like it but hated it as soon as I took it out of the box. This is 100% not worth my money. I was expecting the wood to be of higher quality but it wasn't. It didn't have a smooth surface and when I tried to install it gave me shards. The pieces of wood were already torn and falling apart when I tried to install it and we ended up driving more nails into the top railing because it was falling apart. The staircase is very small and I have a cat - if you have a small dog I don't think it would fit (like this Jack Russell in this picture). It has sharp parts, it scratches and it stinks terribly. I think I can recommend that. However, at this price I was expecting everything to be roughly as pictured, but it was NOT what it was. If you take the time to sand and paint this I think it will be a great finished job. My cats hated it and didn't even sleep on it, despite my persuasion. As a result, the tree split and fell apart completely, so I threw it in the trash. A complete waste of money.
