In fact, it remains a mystery what these numbers mean, unless they're meant to trick shoppers into thinking they're US sizing. If you were just numbering pockets to organize/identify where the needle is, you wouldn't start numbering at 6! The only two needles close to US sizes were 6 and 7, but after that there is no correlation. The needles themselves are beautiful, well constructed, but totally useless for most knitting projects. I am so disappointed - I really thought they were US sizing - the metric sizes are in the product description but I confess they mean nothing to me. I have no mental image of sizes in metric millimeters - and when I saw them numbered 6 and up I mentally jumped to US numbering. Don't be fooled like me unless you need a random set of VERY SMALL needles.
