Review on πŸ”§ Enhance Your Sanding Efficiency with 3M 05776 Hookit Disc Pad, 6 Inch by Scott Hall

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Essential but prone to permanent fixation on the spindle

I've used them for many years - they work much faster and are generally better than belt sanders, and changing sanding pads is a breeze. However, there is one fatal flaw. With intensive use, the rubber is permanently fixed on the spindle. This means no available leverage or torque can take the damn thing off when you need to replace it. I've tried using anti-seize lube, I've tried loosening it immediately after each use, I've tried modifying an open-end wrench to complement simply pulling the disc out from the outside with the spindle locked - im Basically, nothing prevents the problem from happening again. . Because pads are so expensive, they are used for as long as possible. But sooner or later the pad will need to be replaced (try VERY hard not to "hook" the end of the pad into the edge of the hardwood!). This is where disillusionment sets in. This renders an expensive grinder useless after a pad change or two. That alone made me switch from Makita to Nieko - they have the same issues but Nieko is 1/3 the price of Makita and works almost as well.
