Review on πŸ“ Kaweco Sketch Up Pencil, Brass, 5.6 mm: Premium Drafting Tool for Artists and Designers by Amber Perez

Excellent, compact, durable, attractive and practical Rod Holder

5.6mm rods have become my favorite tools for shading/rendering patterns, rough sketches and some textures. This Kaweco Sketch Up pencil holder is handy, durable and compact. Being a metal, it heats up with use. This line holder does not roll as much as others because of the shape. The clutch design and all-metal construction ensure a very long service life. I found a local trophy shop that can engrave a brass barrel, handy for gifts or personalization/identification. Other brands of 5.6mm refills are too long to fully fit the barrel when new, but I use them anyway. Cables wear out fairly quickly with use and then fit well. A range of 5.6mm diameter rods are available (not just graphite); I have used Cretacolor and Koh-I-Noor products, but there are other brands as well. I don't like built in sharpeners as they tend to get dirty and coat the handle holder with graphite dust no matter how hard you try to clean it each time. So I used a sharpener to make sure it worked in a pinch (and it does), but I prefer to use a separate standard manual sharpener. This refill will also fit *some* refills, diamonds, shading stumps, charcoal, pastels, colored pencils, silicone color formers and brushes, but will not fit most woodless pens and will not function as a pencil. Extension for pencils in a wooden bowl. The addition of other grades of graphite and different mediums makes this tool very versatile for many different tasks/hobbies/professions. All in all this is a great leash holder and looks very pretty. As it was designed as part of the Kaweco Sport line of products, it is particularly useful when paired with a handle or two, allowing you to have a 'set' while still being attractive and practical on its own.

Pros
  • Crafts and Sewing
Cons
