Review on πŸ“€ Samsung DVD-VR375/DVD-VR375A DVD Recorder VHS Combo by Chad Carter

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Unfortunately a disappointment!

I ordered this for my parents to transfer their collection of VHS tapes to DVD (over 300 I might add). I thought I had researched the product fairly thoroughly beforehand, but just googling the Samsung DVD-VR375 gave me only the most basic reviews, however those reviews did not list the inherent issues with the DVD Recorder VCR combo box. You must actually own the device and encounter problems to know how common the problem is. Here is the actual product http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TK3D40/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title. Let me clarify that the seller is not responsible for the defects of this product. In a nutshell. I started copying my own VHS tapes to DVD. I made 25 DVDs out of 37 attempts, which is not bad. I only skimmed the first few DVDs to make sure the quality was good, usually less than 15 seconds, progressing to different chapters etc. I never watched the full DVD. I was on another DVD when my mom said the ones I made were bad, "her lips don't match the video", a problem that caused the AV sync. Of course I started checking all the DVDs made, 23 out of 25 had AV sync issues, starting at around 3/4 of the DVDs. Only 2 recordings made with her old VHS camcorder were not affected by the AV synchronization. Thinking it might be a problem with a homemade VHS tape or DVD media, this time I tried a different brand of DVD media and bought a prerecorded tape from the store to back up the DVD (which is perfectly legal, I might add). Same problem with 3/4 at the beginning of DVD-AV sync problems. Contacting Samsung tech support was a waste of time. Waiting 42 minutes only to be told that they (aka Samsung) are not responsible for the quality of DVDs they record themselves. He even told me that it was primarily intended for copying store-bought tapes for backups or recording TV/cable/satellite broadcasts. The technician didn't even try to fix the problem. I even checked that the device was running the latest and greatest firmware and it was. So Samsung never fixed the bug in this product, and if tech support is any example, they don't even bother to keep it going in the future. them to another recorder and do not need to be thrown away. Oh, and by the way, as soon as you google AV sync problems with Samsung DVD-VR375a, you get 11060 results from people having problems with this brand. And I would add that Samsung's copy and write protection leaves a lot to be desired, it kept telling me that a homemade VHS tape made with a Toshiba VHS camcorder was copy material. Only deactivating it twice in a row fixed the error. The good thing about the device is the excellent VHS playback. But @$175 for a VCR is way too much! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE. IF YOU REALLY DON'T HATE THAT PERSON
