In the beginning more than half of the parts had some kind of damage. Either deep scratches on the surface or, in the case of shelves, wrinkled or chipped edges. A heavy black permanent marker is your friend. Well, it's the ability to read minds, since the instructions only give you a rough idea of how things work. You have to pay close attention to which parts are facing forward, as none of them are labeled in any way. the hole in which to attach it. Once attached, you will need to clear the small center section of the top shelf so you can close the door and latch without hitting the media. I will say that this is a very durable piece of furniture and is fairly stable once assembled, although storage is quite specific. For example, you are asked to set up the top shelf for CDs or DVDs. Keep in mind that choosing a DVD just means you move the CDs to a different shelf as there is no space in the unit to store just DVDs. This applies to all storage options. So not having CDs leaves a lot of unused closet space, or you put things on the side. As a note. I ordered two of these and both had severe damage to the black surfaces and edges, so I don't think this is an isolated case. For this reason I will not personally buy from Prepac again, nor will I be returning the cabinets as once together and with the damage they worked quite well for their intended purpose. Dorian
