Things I want to know

After watching the Dronebot YouTube videos, I was keen to try the ESP32-CAM. So I bought this product. (I hope Revain links this review to this particular product and not anything called ESP32-CAM because there is a difference). If you're new to these boards like me, be sure to check out Dronebot's YouTube video. There is an ESP32 CAM from AI-THINKER. It's double the price but bears their name and they seem to think they are fake. Fake or not, I was able to get them to work. Some other commenters have provided misleading information. Provide a 3.3V board, not 5V as some have commented. The correct 3.3V is printed on the board. USB from your computer via an FTDI board will not deliver the full 2 amps in most cases. When the card boots up and is connected to your computer, the serial monitor (or putty) will see a "shutdown trigger", meaning the current is below the required 2 amps. I had to supply power from a separate power supply and make serial communication links through the FTDI board to the PC. There was no smoke so I guess it's ok but you do it for yourself. Although it was not made for AI-THINKER and bears her name, it will still be identified as "CAMERA_MODEL_AI_THINKER" if you use the examples provided. board type. do not forget that

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
