If you are buying this for your 996 there are a few things you should know. If you're a Porsche lover, you probably read message boards. If not, be sure to do so before you buy. Let me say this: if you're driving in the pouring rain, using a touchless car wash or pressure washer, or anything else that dumps a ton of water on your car, be prepared for the engine to groan or, worse, stall . The stock airbox is sealed except for the hose - this fixture allows the filter to get some sun or rain. Also, many of us who know and love K&Ns know that they need to be washed and re-oiled. NOT AT PORSCHE. You risk damaging the mass air flow sensor if it is lubricated with even a little oil. If you want to use this, it is very important to use mild detergent to wash, re-wash and soak in clean water several times. The point is that the oil messed up the MAF sensor - there are too many comments on the forums to ignore this potential problem. It is equally important to use the rain cover included in the kit. So good stuff - if you have a stock exhaust - the sound is amazing - the intake sound is fantastic, the exhaust sound is hoarse. I have a custom exhaust on my 996 - at low rpm I see no difference - when it screams at 4k and it sounds SWEET! One thing I'm not sure about is the "cold air" aspect. Thus, the filter is located directly under the engine cover - it is naturally ventilated. That being said, my engine bay didn't seem all that warm to the touch at normal operating temps - with the entire stock air intake gone I can feel the heat build up a lot more. Maybe that's a good thing, too, because the storage box might have stopped him - I don't know, just my observation. In terms of performance, I don't see anything - neither does the air filter change. Fun/sound factor - 10+
