When I received my roll of burlap it was in a rigid roll, sealed in a bubble wrap lined mailing envelope. When I opened the shrink wrap, a strong smell of diesel/petrol hit me. I unpacked it and hung it on the dryer to air out the night in my studio. I thought it's ok if the smell is still there I'll just wash it. I often buy burlap, it has a smell, but the smell should be natural, not repellent fumes. The next night (I left it hanging for over 24 hours) I went to check it out and the whole room smelled of fuel. I washed it in the washing machine, gentle cycle, lukewarm water, oxygen jets, regular detergent, deodorant fabric softener and soaked in baking soda (I know it sounds like an exaggeration but you should be able to smell the stuff) when I got out of the Taken from the car it still smelled of gas. After all that, I fired up my candle warmer and hung it back up in my workshop. I'm on my third day and the smell is still there but not as strong as the first day. The quality is excellent! Beautiful dense and even weaving, beautiful color, does not crumble even after washing. I wish I could use this right away instead of washing/machining it to bring it to acceptable condition because it really should be part of the company.
