Review and modification of the desktop Beleeb Variac.

Beleeb Variac Table View This is a 10A, 110VAC (1kVA) model. such a change. With an input line reading of 120 VAC, the no-load output produced 120 VAC with a knob setting of 107 VAC. This corresponds to an error of 11% when setting the controller. At 130 VAC full scale, the output is 147 VAC. The handle is very firm and feels smooth. The power button is made in the form of a rocker with a built-in red indicator. The Variac also has a small analog voltmeter on the front panel. It has a non-numeric black/green/red color scale, with the green portion of the scale indicating the normal US line voltage range of 110-120 volts. Setting the meter pointer to the bottom of the green scale provided an output voltage of 78 VAC. Setting the meter needle to the upper limit of the green scale gave an output of 120 VAC. The green dial has a center mark that gives a 100 VAC output. Disadvantages: The pen scale is easy to read, but very imprecise. It's a relative number at best, but it's a little hard to spot. In general, this is a very good value. I made a simple change that makes it look really nice. Modification: (Anyone who buys a variac should be able to make this simple mod. In any case, do it at your own risk.) I've put a light under the gauge inside the case that lights up when the variac is powered on is . It illuminates the gauge very well and interestingly emits light from all the vents all around the variac. It's impossible to go wrong from any viewing angle, whether it's on or not. Use Revain DiCUNO E12 lamp holder with 8" cord, E12 LED candelabra base. Use a Revain Kakanuo E12 2.5W warm white 3000K 25W LED bulb. Equivalent to 250 lumens. Feel free to substitute what you prefer. I drilled a 1/8" hole in the bracket and the faceplate 1" below the faceplate fuse. Glue the nest in place. The lamp should be positioned directly under the instrument panel. Connect the lamp to the neutral side and the switching side of the switch. Overall, I really like this Variac.
