Short - won't work, don't trust it with your life! Recently I saw an overturned car on the freeway. The vehicle collided with another vehicle at the rear and the occupants were likely trapped in their vehicle. The crews broke the windows and did their job, after that I don't remember the details but bottom line I thought I needed a tool to escape (or help other trapped people) in a similar situation. I bought this "Hammer of Life" thinking I was on the safe side as there were so many good reviews and it is a bestseller. But today I decided to check how it works and went to the landfill. The yard owner kindly allowed me to break the glass on the passenger side of the Toyota Camry. I banged on the glass at least 10 times to no avail, the farm owner tried 10 times too, then me again. I hit not only the corners, but also the middle part - the glass got very small scratches, but it didn't break (even by hand). I had to stop hitting because the handle of the "Hammer of Life" broke (the halves parted showing the hammer was empty between two pieces of metal) and the tip of the hammer (which was meant to break the glass) became dull - Yes, the metal tip was rounded and the new one was very sharp. I have a photo but can't find how to attach it. As a result, we could not break the normal car's normal side glass! I don't know how others managed to break the glass after the first hit - in my experience it dulled and the handle broke. I am very, VERY disappointed. I've never had a "hammer of life" but according to the description and common sense it should work easily - the tip of the hammer is stronger than glass -> tempered glass breaks. This is not the case here! The junkyard owner gave me an idea what to use in place of this joke. I'll find this thing and try it.
