Review on Cowryman Handheld Router Plane For Precise And Efficient Woodworking - R022 Plane by Lucas Salgado

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like this router plane overall

I like this router plane overall, it does it's main purpose (for me finishing up tennons and dados) very well. The blade is nice and sharp outta the box, didn't even need a hone yet. This is made from a plate of steel with everything boltes on. To me that means if I blame my kids 😁 for knocking on to the floor I can probably fix it, cuz you know, no busted cast metal. The base is 1/4" thick so no noticable flexing either. My only real issue is the knobs, they are nicely turned but too small. Base is 3/4" with the crown at 1 1/4", my palm measures shy of 5" across. If your thinking hand cramps, you'd be right. I'm making new ones soon. The fence that comes with stops at 3/4" from edge of the blade limiting it's use some if making a stopped groove on a frame rail. To that extent, on narrower stock if needed to start cut from the end of, has little at the front for tool support. Overall tho, I like it, and at the price it's far less than the other current makers and I've expressed my concerns to the maker who hopefully addresses at least the knob size. Oh, I forget, there is no attachment point to add a hardwood to the base if we want. Not a deal breaker at all tho, you can figure it out quite easily. Good tool, if you don't have a router plane you should get one.

Pros
  • Iron Size: 0.31in
Cons
  • The plane's base plate is prone to warping
