Review on πŸš— Enhanced RoadPro RP-550 36" Adjustable Ring CB Antenna with Advanced Tunability by Gary Shakeone

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well and is very easy to set up.

I have this on my 4x4 so I need something that can wear out a bit and doesn't cost a fortune if it breaks or breaks. I was very impressed with how easy it was to set up. The setup method is a little different from what you've seen elsewhere, but it seems to work very well, especially on my car. I have an antenna mount that connects to a roof rack on a car and as a result the fit doesn't provide the best RF grounding for the antenna. I have found that many CB antennas typically oscillate almost a full MHz higher in frequency. With a cross needle SWR meter in hand, this antenna was installed in less than 5 minutes and calibrated to less than 1.5x full range. Not bad for a compromise antenna on a compromise mount. I only use the CB when cycling or going off-road with friends. Having used a pretty standard 4 watt radio this weekend I was generally quite happy with its performance. With the RF gain reduced, we had no problem maintaining communications within a 1-2 mile radius around town and in the woods. In the city, the range was poor, but mainly due to electrical interference. With the RG gain turned up, I could still hear tons of distant contacts, which I tend to avoid. In short, this one has less wind load than the Fire Stick antenna, but it's very narrow in alignment, which is great. The flexible bolt should be able to take some abuse and at around $20 I think it's good value if you just want a basic antenna for basic purposes. If you have illegal power and want to be the most powerful voice in the state this may not suit your needs, but for general moderate to low power use this is a good buy.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Good but not great
