Review on Enhanced Beck Arnley 044-0310 Transmission Filter Kit for Superior Automatic Performance by Bart Elbrink

VW 'Lifetime' Gear Oil rated for approximately 100,000 miles

When my VW gearbox started making noise it had done 110,000 miles. The noise was gear slippage and it failed to engage for a short time. It only happened when the car was cold. It's okay, but he might turn into one. A transmission repair or a new transmission would cost me half the price of the car. The ATF was never changed so I figured why not. I bought this filter together with Mobil 1 ATF. Everything went according to my research and I was able to change the fluids and filter. It was just a drain, not a full flush as the flush might have been too much for the old transmission. The oil was dirty, like dirty water, and so was the filter. It was a relief to put new fluid and filters in the transmission. Transmission is smoother than ever. There were no more problems with clutch engagement in the cold. Transmissions always turned on quietly and smoothly. With four speeds everything was fine. I couldn't remember when the transmission was so smooth. Looking back, I should have had the gearbox serviced regularly. For efficient operation, it is generally recommended to drain and refill every 2 oil changes. Keep in mind that this is a drain, not a flush, which will only replace about a third of the liquid. When VW says gear oil is designed for "life," don't believe it. I expect my car to last another 200,000, two more VW "lives".
