Poor in-dash navigation instructions

I have an e39 528i and the mounting brackets for this unit are very confused. Also, do not rely on instructions to help you. However, the device is very pleasant and automatically improves the sound quality throughout the car. I also can't figure out how to get the steering wheel controls to work :/
