I think I've figured out how to install this filter, but there may be nuances I've missed. I was able to achieve a watertight seal without teflon tape, but teflon tape improves the installation. I only use it in the washing machine. With instructions in a foreign language (Asian characters), I can't make out what the metal is made of - brass, lead, etc. Without knowing the composition, I wouldn't recommend it for drinking water.
