Review on Lodge Square Pre Seasoned Draining Grilling by Dawn Thompson

LOVE this grill - how I take care of it

It has become my favorite piece of equipment in the kitchen. And it was incredibly cheap, even compared to buying it at a big retail store. Remember that this is cast iron and you need to take care of it to avoid rusting. I've seen the negative reviews on here and I feel like they didn't take care of it properly. Here are some tips to help you (thanks Google): Instructions1. Wash the pan immediately after use while it is still hot or warm. Do not soak the pan or leave it in the sink, otherwise it may rust.2. Hand wash the pan with hot water and a sponge or stiff brush. Avoid using dishwashers, soap or steel wool as these can remove the spices from the pan.3. To remove stubborn food residue, wipe down the pan with a paste of coarse, kosher salt and water. Stubborn food debris can also be dissolved by boiling water in a saucepan.4. Dry the pan thoroughly with a towel or dry on the stove over low heat.5. Using a cloth or paper towel, apply a thin coat of vegetable oil or melted shortening to the inside of the pan. Some people also like to oil the outside of the pan. Buff to remove excess.6. Store the pan in a dry place. Additional Comments. Using soap, steel wool, or other abrasives isn't the end of the world, but you may need to re-season your pan. If the pan has aged well from years of use, a small amount of mild soap can be used without much damage - just rinse well and oil once dry. Remove rust with a steel wool or rub it off with raw potatoes and a pinch of baking soda (seriously, it works!). Here, too, it may be necessary to season the pan again after cleaning.
