If you have a Comcast Triple Play with Voice, stop reading now and buy this modem. I bought it to save $10 a month on renting an outdated Arris modem that we got when we first got triple play. I wish this was available sooner. We estimated a maximum download speed of 75Mbps and a maximum upload speed of 10Mbps. With Arris, I never got above 32 Mbps unless it was 3:00 am when I sometimes hit 35 Mbps. The first thing I did when I installed this app was run speed tests from different sources on my desktop and mobile. With this modem I have almost 90 Mbit/s. on my desktop AND my phone. Below are some pros and cons. ADVANTAGES - Easy to install - Very simple installation and activation. Just unplug and plug in your Arris cable modem and that's it. Activation is a bit more complicated, but still very simple. You need to login to your router with 192.168.0.1 and set a new password. Once you save it, you will be automatically redirected to the Comcast activation website. A few more clicks and you're done. speed and performance. As I said above, I'm seeing speeds almost 3 times faster than my old Arris cable modem, that fact alone is enough to warrant buying it. The Netgear Nighthawk series routers are known in the IT community for their fantastic performance and this is no exception. I'm sure there are other bells and whistles I can tweak to get every Mbps out of this thing and keep it secure like Fort Knox, but it was only installed 12 hours ago so I didn't have time to mess with it to play. . Multiple wifi channels. One of the things about the old Arris is that you couldn't just choose whether to connect to the 2.4GHz channels or the faster 5GHz channels. This C1700V allows you to set up both independently with separate SSIDs and passwords. So if you're like me, kids and their 27 devices can jump to 2.4GHz and you can still have blazing fast 5GHz speeds on your own devices. CONS - Please note that it doesn't say "CONTRADICTION", just a minus, just one. Price - This thing is expensive. But it's worth it for the performance. Would I wish I didn't have to spend $300 that I won't get back for at least 30 months? Yes, but I would do it again if I had to, just for the performance. Eventually I'll get my money back, I mean Comcast is the ONLY cable provider in my area so I don't plan on switching any time soon so I'll break even in 30 months. Although this pill is difficult to swallow at first.
