From time to time it can be useful for a DIYer like me to be in a situation where it is very useful to determine if an AC power cord is live. For example, my wife recently became the owner of her childhood home, her parents recently passed away. Looking around the house I saw some wires that I wasn't sure were alive. In this scenario, the good thing is that I can use this device for a quick walkthrough and see if the device detects power. I wouldn't be entirely sure if the lack of an alarm is sufficient evidence of the lack of power. Rather, it's a good tip to arm yourself so you can continue your investigation safely. The device came with a quick start guide and 2 AAA batteries that needed to be installed. There are no problems starting the device. It chirps happily when touching nearby hot AC outlets and is (as expected) silent when testing DC cords or non-electrical objects. Device. The plastic case seems strong enough to protect the device in case of a fall. And of course, a non-conductive material used for electrical test equipment is a smart design strategy. This is exactly what I was looking for. Five stars.
