I bought this to connect a new HDMI only monitor to an old laptop that only has a VGA output. I actually connected it to the KVM switch's VGA output as I have multiple PCs that use VGA connections going to the same monitor. I was worried it wouldn't work, and at first it didn't work until I remembered the USB power cable that came with the adapter. As soon as I connected it to the USB port of one of the PCs and to the adapter, all the PCs started working with the monitor and the KVM switch. Exactly what I needed!
