Much slower than Google Wifi/Mesh

Let me preface this 1. I know the advertised speed will never be close2. I'm a fairly techy person, but the method I used may not really work. I have 600Mbps and am using a Gigabit rated Nighthawk router and then also a Google Wi-Fi mesh. I wanted to find a way to increase the speed, but we literally have an ethernet port. I was already using Google Mesh and knew it was just another mesh device but wanted to see if it could outperform my Google device as it is designed and will be designed for high speeds. Here's the average of the tests I ran before I bought it (using Ookla): Connected directly to my modem: 285 Mbps. Wifi speed right next to my modem/router: 230 bps for download. can beat that and has really good speed and connection. Testing this unit, I recreated the Wi-Fi in the Google Mesh test (in a room away from the router/modem) and averaged 85 Mbps. Then I set everything up and connected to the new Trendnet. Unit. I ran three tests like everyone else at 58Mbps, 56Mbps and 50Mbps. So wayyyyyy even under the wifi speed. While I'm fairly tech savvy and essentially using two mesh systems inside each other, I'm not sure how or if it had a significant impact, but if not then the speed was pretty terrible. I don't recommend this if you might want to use this as your only grid, and if you do you might as well use Google or Orbi Grid.

Pros
  • Useful for more than it's intended purpose
Cons
  • Can I add something
