I'm one of the few who doesn't like this air intake. I first liked it when I received an additional 0.25 percent increase in MPG when traveling from San Luis Obispo County to Orange County. I have the AC on and I'm driving between 65 and 75 at varying speeds in Orange County. I've noticed a noticeable difference in fuel economy and acceleration when passing other cars, which is great. However, when I got home, the Check Engine light came on. My friend advised me to disconnect and reconnect the battery, the check engine light went out. A week later it flared up again. I've noticed that the check engine light comes on in cold weather when it's warm or hot, no. This is not a very scientific conclusion, just my personal observation every time this has happened. Fuel economy worsened somewhat when commuting between home, work and other activities; also on the tracks. I had a friend who checked the trouble codes, he said something about the car sucking too much air. I also searched the Internet for information on how to check the engine gauges when installing the KN inlet, there is also a forum for this. Apparently I'm not the only one this happens to. I personally don't recommend it as it has more hype than actual performance. One of the reasons I chose KN is because it's legal in California, maybe I should have chosen a different product. As I was writing this, my check engine light came on when I put my factory intake back into my 4runner. What I love about KN is their air filter; works well, just wash and reuse.
