For the past 15 years I've been working with a set of old steel worker's gloves I had as a kid and when I was working with my uncle on a construction site. My fingers sucked up so much heat that the tips were covered with calluses. I didn't think they could compete, but when working with metals from 300 to 1600 degrees Fahrenheit, these gloves worked great. I threw away my old ones. I haven't used an apron yet as my work involved small projects, but it's the same material as the gloves so I feel more confident now. I was using a butcher's apron, so I got quite a few burns.
