Review on ๐Ÿ’ป High-Speed Internet Connection with Renewed ARRIS SURFboard SB6141-RB 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem by Robert Larris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good device, small defect

Used device at a top price. Fast delivery, good packaging. A small unit that feels a bit warm and therefore allows for good ventilation. The device works well for several weeks when paired with a TP-Link Archer C9 router. Some reviewers have mentioned issues or the inability to activate these refurbished devices through the cable provider since they are registered with the previous owner. I have a TWC and had absolutely no connection problems. Thanks Steve I mentioned that this is a Revain refurbished unit but not sure if that helped. Since I have a landline with TWC, I also connected both devices to the splitter (following TWC's instructions on their website as I will be keeping their old modem for our landline), both modems are on and the new SURFboard modem was installed connected to my computer via an ethernet cable when I made the call. TWC had to unplug their modem and transfer the internet address to the new modem, so maybe that made things a little easier on their end since both devices were connected at the same time. I did not rate this device 5 stars. because (1) the power and internet connection lights are not turning green as intended. They are white. All other indicators turn blue as intended, indicating a strong signal. This slight quirk doesn't affect performance and shouldn't be a problem, but it may indicate a repair that wasn't done thoroughly enough. I do not know. If the device fails sooner, I'll let you know. (2) Another small feature, as mentioned, is how bright the light is. As already mentioned, the device heats up even with sufficient ventilation, so it cannot be hidden. A bit of masking or tape over the light will dim the light. Solid 4 stars overall and 5 stars for functionality if the device lasts. BTW I used a modem/router from TWC (also Arris, a pretty good DOCSIS 3.0 device). ) on select devices to increase WiFi range, migrate to the new 802.11ac standard, and reduce monthly cable TV bills. This modem, paired with TP-Link C9, increased the range in my two-story, 1,750 square foot building. Feet, with the modem in the upstairs bedroom at one end of the house. Previously I ran an access point to extend the range to the other end of the house. I used the OOKLA speed test app to estimate the range. It was almost the same up close, but with the new setting, the loss was less with increasing distance from the router. In fact, almost nothing is lost with a new installation in the furthest corner of the house. I only have TWC turbo (20/2 Mbit/s) so not unlimited access, but I couldn't check the maximum signal throughput on my system. NetGear WiFI Analytics is also a good testing app if you want to test your spot. It will also read reception on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands separately. FWIW, our home has a fairly open floor plan, according to YMMV. As mentioned by others, these refurbished devices can be activated by your cable company if you have the technology to do so.
