There's a lot to learn, but it's worth it in the end.

There is a lot to say about this device. I still have a lot to learn and probably don't know half of what I should. We needed something to help our son create YouTube videos. We don't have a game computer. We have an everyday laptop that is mainly used for surfing the web and checking email. So we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a gaming laptop. We read reviews and watched videos about Elgato and compared it to other options. This just seemed like the best option. If, like us, you have a laptop for everyday use, it's definitely possible to make this device work. However, there is a lot to learn. I suggest you go to YouTube and watch the instruction video. We also bought a Yeti microphone for audio. This is a great mic, but you must remember to switch to the device when using Elgato when using the comment option. We've found that downloading an audio recording program works better given the limitations of our laptop. They record sound with this separate program and use sound from it when compiling videos, not from Elgato. Also, when using the mic on a laptop, it sounds muffled. I highly recommend buying a headset or microphone if you use it. The sound gets a lot better. We've also found that pausing a live stream on a laptop makes the video less choppy. There are many similar tips on the internet. But it's a great device. The editing tool on it is fine. I wouldn't edit with it. There are so many best programs that you can use to create the video you want to create. It really limits you, but it's a good place to see what you've done. I also like the long HDMI/USB cables that come with it. When we're shooting a video we need to span it across the room, so a good long cable really helps a lot. So don't get discouraged if you have a laptop for everyday use. That will work. Just know that you need to make some adjustments. If you take the time to learn what works and what doesn't, your end result is a really nice video AND a nice sound. I was very impressed when all the parts came together. You'll have to play around to see what works for you. There are all sorts of attitudes and this and that to learn. It's worth it.
