First turn off the echo sensor mode!
At first I thought the screen was a bit dim, but that was because Echo Sensor mode was enabled (default). It's somewhat hidden in the settings (under System, scroll all the way down). Note that it's different from Echo Saving Plus (also found under System), which I think is disabled by default, but
