When steaming broccoli, the handles got so hot that part of the handle made a loud bang and flew off, flying across the room and landing 6 feet directly in front of my young daughter. The piece of pen was so hot it would burn anyone it hit. I even had a medium flame when it happened because I overheated it the day before and smelled toxic burning plastic. I thought they were pens because they were (extremely) hot to the touch. Agreed I shouldn't have used it again but I REALLY needed a steamer the next day so figured I could use it on medium heat. You should remember this pan - it's not so cheap for nothing! Do yourself a favor and move on to the next one!
