Review on πŸ“Ά On Networks N300R WiFi Router: Efficient and Reliable Internet Connectivity by John Hashman

Revainrating 2 out of 5

high performance! on routers

I think this router deserves a higher rating, especially for the price (I bought it for $15). The wireless world is so complex with too many variables that sometimes people simply blame poor performance on the router. wooden frame with drywall) and the floor in between I get a stable actual throughput of 9-11 MB/s. It's almost 100Mbps, the limit is actually due to the 100Mbps LAN port I use to connect one of the computers (and WD TV Live) to the router. The other computer is of course connected to a high-gain WiFi adapter from TP-Link. Streaming Bluray HD videos is not a problem here, in fact it only takes about 5 MB/s. In this case, the wireless adapter plays a very important role. I used another universal 300m/s WiFi adapter and got a maximum of 2-3 MB/s, which is also not very stable. Since everything is the same except for the WLAN adapter, the router can be ruled out as the cause. Even with a high gain wireless TP-Link adapter, I get high throughput if I place it at a certain angle. The speed of the connection (shown in task manager) changes dramatically from 300m/s to 1m/s as the angle changes; all the same distance! I use this router for one purpose only, to stream HD video from my upstairs laptop to WD TV Live downstairs. And it works great for that! BTW, WD TV Live's internal Wi-Fi isn't fast enough for high bitrate HD video, so I need a router, but that's another review.
