I bought an Orbi RBR50 with one satellite that claims to cover 5000m². ft. I have a three story house with an area of 4600 sq. ft. ). It covered about half of the house with a few dead spots in that half. So I bought two more satellites. We placed a satellite on each floor covering the whole house. About a month later the problems started. Devices cannot connect; sometimes they would appear connected on Orbi and on the device, but with no internet; One of the satellites was shut down from time to time. It was strange. I could have two iPads around the house, one connected and the other not. After an hour and a half on the phone with tech support, which forced me to reinstall the system from scratch, it worked for a week. Now back to acting. Another hour of tech support today. I believe the tech support is outside of India which makes communication difficult at times. Also, they don't seem to know much about the product, so they keep putting you off. In the end, their only solution was to reset the entire system and reinstall from scratch. With about 30 clients (TVs, DVDs, amplifiers, PCs, iPads, iPhones, thermostats, etc.) it takes me about an hour and a half. Each time you restart, you must turn off all devices; Launch Orb individually; distribute Orbis throughout the house; and reconnect the clients. Please note that you will lose all information you have entered such as network ID, guest network settings, names of clients (e.g. living room TV instead of a common name). Also, contrary to what Netgear claims, the client doesn't connect to the nearest satellite, which I think is part of the problem. When I plug in my iPad, it usually locks onto the nearest satellite. As I walk around the house it tries to stay connected to the same satellite, which goes against the very idea of a mesh network. devices do. It always connects at the highest possible speed. My iPad sometimes connects at 5GHz and sometimes at 2.4GHz. The network card is also wrong. Sometimes a device plugged into the back of the Orbi (via CAT5) will show up as wirelessly connected and sometimes as connected to another Orbi. Also note that if your wireless network goes down, you will also lose your wired LAN if you use satellites as wired routers. So you don't have internet. I usually like Netgear products, but Orbi is far from ready for prime time.
