Review on Palm GPS Car Kit 3224NA by Jennifer Moore

Revainrating 4 out of 5

But overall I'm satisfied.

Pros: - I like that the mount holds a GPS device and charges the Palm while driving - To my surprise, it comes with an extra antenna that can be plugged in and installed outside the car (although the cable is very long and uncomfortable ).- The TomTom software seems to work well so far, but I've already stumbled across a major road junction that was completely rebuilt a few years ago and the maps still match the roads from before. - I found that if I don't turn off the application I get memory issues which as a non-techie I can only solve with a soft reset. After figuring this out, I started disabling the app and haven't had any issues since. I'm curious to know what third party apps exist to fix "memory leaks". - The reception was fine without an additional antenna, until clouds came up and it started to rain. If I connect the antenna and fix it on the car roof (it's waterproof, with a long cord and magnetic base), the problem is solved. However, the cable is very long and uncomfortable. It is also very difficult to connect. I noticed that when there is a loss of reception, the entire screen freezes and that the only way to pick up satellites again is to unplug the power from the cigarette lighter and restart. One more note; Palm's website says it only works with T5 and E2 models, but for me it works just as well with our TX. Palm support has been useless trying to figure this out, but there are many good forums out there that can help. The installation was no problem at all. The only thing that bothered me was that I was expecting to be prompted to install the map software. Somehow you just have to know that you have to do two separate installations (one for the software, one for the maps) before proceeding to activate the device.
