Review on RV Designer E226 Self Closing Door Holder: T-Style, Stainless Steel, 6-Inch – Efficient Entry Door Hardware by Brian Shakey

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not like in the photo. Can be used?

I bought this to replace a broken plastic T-bar on the front door of a 5 wheel camper. I wanted the metal to be durable and after reading the reviews I was even willing to adjust it due to the angle issue some reviewers kindly warned about. But the product received is not what is shown. I was expecting an extra spring holding the T-bar because I read about it in the reviews too. What I wasn't expecting was a metal hook sticking out of the receiver's keyhole (I uploaded some photos). As far as I can tell this renders the holder unusable because it blocks the keyhole. Until you have the parts assembled it is possible to insert a T-bar into the keyhole by setting the correct angle on it, but that angle seems impossible once set. I showed it to my RV repairman and he suggested the hook was there to hold the T-bar in place, but the hook is too stiff and/or not installed properly. He tried bending the hook into different configurations, thinking I might be mangled, but nothing worked. We agreed that the only solution was to saw off the hook. Between adjusting the angle and his warning that sometimes the metal brackets don't "give" enough and end up snapping out of the bracket, I decided to issue a refund. I gave it two stars because although I found it unusable (1 star), it is solidly built and looks like stainless steel as advertised. To be fair, maybe we just didn't understand how to use it. I wish there were instructions included. It seems the T-holder instructions are unnecessary, but in this case I'd welcome them.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Really don't like it, everything is fine
