Review on πŸŒ‚ Large Stanwood Wooden Umbrella Swift for Needlecraft by Jennifer Roberts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfectly reconstructed old technology Sweet Swift

As you can see in my video we paired this Swift with one of Stnwood's curlers - and it's a great combination. For many years all of our skeins of yarn were unwound by hand, with one of us holding the skein and the other making the ball. (The "knee method" has also been used dozens of times without much success.) While these routines "built a community" between us knitters and everyone, using this fast and twisting skein was a huge improvement. I say this because the strands coming off the winder are easier to work with (they don't twist) and become easier to thread over time on larger projects like blankets and sweaters. I like it fast because as part of the technology it looks like it could have been done by hand 100 years ago. Screw terminals are made of wood, and it's all an exercise in simplicity. The only two tricks to working with him are 1) finding a good spot where he can roam freely and 2) putting strands on the swift. As I show in my video, we found that fluffing up a little is a good way to wrap a strand around a swift before expanding it a bit. I'm sure there is another method, but this one worked for me. Now that I've seen and used it, I think you could make it yourself - all it takes is some fine woodworking. We are very satisfied with this fast, as it spins great and is the easiest and quickest way to twist a skein of yarn. This product was NOT provided to me as part of a promotion.
