. I used a very old crimping tool that I inherited from my grandfather, but it clearly didn't work, so I decided to switch to a new/modern crimping tool. So far I've used this thing about 6-7 times. and my feelings are a bit mixed. While the unit looks good, a few of my crimps were unsuccessful - the wires easily detached from the butt connectors (which is the worst thing that can happen with a crimp, in fact). To be honest there are different ways. Factors that affect crimp strength are the gauge of the wire, whether it is fully inserted into the butt splice connector, etc., so I can't say for sure that this crimping tool is responsible for failed crimps. . On the other hand, this tool is designed in such a way that it can only squeeze the connector a certain amount before the jaws of the tool come into contact with each other. Once the jaws make contact, you can no longer crimp the connector. This is fine most of the time, but when you're trying to crimp a wire that's a little less than ideal, it sometimes takes a little extra force to really hold the wire in place. The design of this tool (similar to most other devices) limits how hard you can crimp the connector, so in some cases your crimp may not be strong enough to hold the wire securely. Again, most of the other crimping tools I reviewed were of the same design, so I don't specifically blame this tool for the problems I encountered. I was just a little disappointed that my new Supercrimper wasn't actually any better than my grandfather's old tool.
