Reliable purchase, guaranteed to be a good purchase.

You need to immediately understand that in fact this is an ordinary memory card. No magic will happen, your system disk will not grow 3 times. And “for Apple” it is because it was carefully adjusted to the size of the connector in the MacBook. As a result, the card is inserted into the memory card slot and works like a card inserted into the memory card slot. It does not stick out from the outside, you can only get it by prying the edge with a clerical knife. Please note: in different MacBooks, the sizes of the connectors are different, so there are different types of cards in the line. It is better to double-check on the Transcend website. I took JetDrive Lite 130 for MacBook Air 7.2, review about it. In the system, it is displayed as a memory card, and is used accordingly: Just throw files there? No problem. Move programs or system stuff there? Something without problems, with something you need to tinker. Personally, I moved it there: - Photos library - there are a lot of actions, but the instructions are on the Apple website. - XCode - you need to install it not from the AppStore, but download it from the Apple Download Center and unpack it manually. And after a very, very long first run in Preferences → Locations, choose the correct path to Command Line Tools. With each ate, all these steps will need to be repeated by hand. - And I also set up backups in TimeMachine, it's convenient. But Photoshop does not want to be put on a memory card, Creative Cloud simply does not allow you to select the appropriate directory. As for the speed - Blackmagick Disk Speed Test shows 10MB/s write and 95MB/s read. For comparison, the native MacBook SSD gives out 250 and 740 Mb / s, respectively. This is all with FileVault encryption enabled, it should be a bit faster without it. Well, if there is a need to use other memory cards (send pictures from the camera, or, I don’t know, write models for a 3D printer), it’s better to think about some kind of external USB card reader. Because every time picking out this card is a whole story.

Pros
  • Additional memory
Cons
  • Speed - OK for a memory card, but not that much compared to an SSD Occupies a slot
