Review on Lenox Tools 3084310X 10 Inch Extension by Dave Brummet

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good arbor, no longer made in the USA

Firstly, this 10" arbor is made for the 11/32" hex used in most 3/8 hole saw arbors . " cartridge. This is an outdated standard unless you choose the larger size 7/16". Lenox has never been great with its documentation and specs, but the tools are great and so is this extension. (Note: there never were 3/8" hole saw shanks until, for some reason, DeWalt got unconventional.) Disappointed to have been misled by a product photo showing a US made product with a swivel - which is what I got is made in China and is no longer a sewn/pen holder but one piece. Seems ok after a few uses so hopefully they haven't started using cheesesteel on it. The socket fits snugly and completely in my Starrett bars. , Lenovo and Morse. And they turn right. I can replace the set screw with one with a larger bite - poor choice in this case and you should tighten it fairly well. This slightly shorter 10 inch size is comfortable. I can still just buy a regular 12" Starrett extension if I can find it at a reasonable price (about the same as this arbor currently) because I know it's made of high quality steel and still made right here at home becomes. I was surprised that Lenox went to China for this article as they still make saws here. and then I remembered B&D bought them a few years ago. Black and Decker (including mostly DeWalt) made everything so cheap it's a shame (I'll point the finger at Milwaukee here too). The line between craftsman and do-it-yourselfer has become very narrow and high-quality tool accessories are hard to come by these days.

Pros
  • Hardened carbon steel for increased strength
Cons
  • Not machined
