They are a great alternative to ball valves especially larger sizes due to their much lower cost. However, there are a few things to note: 1. They are not really designed to restrict the flow of water. They work but can be slow to self-close due to the weight of the valve.2. If there is debris in the water it can settle to the bottom of the valve seat/slot and prevent it from fully closing. This can be anything from a minor problem to a serious problem such as the main drain valve in a large fish pond. They are designed for low pressure applications only, such as B. Pond drains where the water pressure does not exceed a few psi.4. Mine were fine, but I've read that they can drip a little even when fully closed. Update: I have to revise my statements a bit. Yes, they're cheap, yes, they work, but they don't completely seal over time, in case that matters. They still let enough water through when they are completely closed and I don't want to leave them standing like this. In summary, it's a good choice, but only where they never need to shut down completely.
