What a struggle for success. Our Amana air conditioner requires a 5 inch hose. The original hose is simply screwed on. This hose was very tedious to install. It definitely can't be the same size. It took a good 15 minutes and some sweat but I managed to install it with plenty of torque. It's so tight you'll probably have to cut open it to get it loose from the fitting. Had to visit my parents to help them install this replacement. I was struggling to put this hose on. The diameter is slightly larger and will not fit if you don't insert it. It's like putting a 15" tire on a 16" rim.
