Please check the full area of the o-ring before replacing it. The K&N oil filter for my Toyota Venza had a pre-existing defect that caused the oil to slowly leak out. I didn't realize it until I found a puddle of oil on the floor. I changed the oil and filter (now with the o-ring that came with the K&N filter) the day before the family trip. The next day I noticed the leak, put in about another gallon of oil, and returned home. After a thorough inspection, I found damage to the new O-ring. See image. If I haven't noticed an oil leak to the ground, my engine could have been completely damaged. It's almost a failure and there's no permanent damage, but it's very difficult to deal with a leak.
