Review on Omnigrid R24 6 Inch By 24 Inch Quilters Ruler by Summer Hendricks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

a good starting ruler for novice quilters

My old fabric ruler was flimsy and the top plastic was peeling off (unfortunately it was the numbers printed on it) so I ordered a replacement. It's far superior in quality to my old one - much thicker/stronger/tougher and never seems to have a problem with peeling. That's a great size. I have a pattern that I needed to cut into something 18 inches long and since it's 24 inches long I can easily do it. I'm using mostly black fabric for this project and you can lay it over the black fabric and see the lines. But you can *also* put it on a light fabric and see the lines since the mesh is two-toned. I don't mind that the colors are black and yellow; both are easy enough to see (and I don't have very good eyesight). I'm a bit scared of rotary cutters, so I mainly use them for line drawing with (washable) fabric markers. But it's sturdy enough and thick enough to use with a rotary cutter next to it. I have a fairly low level of experience so I'll stick with squares and rectangles for now and that's more than enough for this purpose. It doesn't have a non-slip surface (and rubber feet) so you'll need to apply some pressure to it when cutting or marking. But it didn't slip for me. (It's good to have a stable, flat work surface. Use a dining table instead of a TV stand, for example.) In any case, it's a lot bigger than what I had before and it's easy to use, so am i happy with that.
