I drove with my laptop and antenna to test it at some WiFi hotspots in the city. In places where I had to drive my car to a building to connect to Wi-Fi via the laptop's built-in antenna, I was able to park about 200 feet away and get a solid, usable connection. Apparently the internet connection is slower because I've fiddled with the antenna and checked to see if the laptop's built-in adapter is disabled, but it certainly does what it's supposed to. And of course my connections were better and also worked remotely when I had a direct line of sight to where the WiFi was coming from. To get a signal through the cars parked in the parking lot you had to be closer to the building than up a small hill overlooking the cars between me and the building.
