Why can't this thermometer go out more than once?

I went through 2 of them and gave up. The first was clouded by condensation the first time it was used. I have sent back and replaced. The second cooked 1 turkey. The second time it was used, it was initially 200 degrees. Tried it anyway and it just went up from 200. Gave it back too. Now I'm looking for another option. However, it is really easy to read.
