Review on ๐ŸŒ€ BAOSHISHAN Spiral Digital Storage with Manual Operation by Jose Mcdaniel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It works, but read this first.

Read this if you want to use the included software to stream data to your computer. If your computer doesn't have a built-in serial port, you'll need a serial-to-USB adapter (and you might need an adapter, even if your computer has a serial port, I'm not sure). You want one that uses the CH340 chip, not Prolific or FTDI. You will also need an angled serial adapter (see my photo for why). When you run the software, look for a program called HP_EN_HANDPI.exe. All folders on the included disc have Chinese names, so just click until you find this program. Don't try to run the program from the CD, just drag the whole folder to your desktop and run it from there. Make sure the db.mdb file is in the folder. Overview I spent a day buying a force sensor and test stand and needed the following features: Lead screw test stand instead of an arm 100lbf displacement sensor Capacity Ability to stream real-time data to an attached PCI. If you google and look at various outlets that sell test equipment, installing a rig with all these features costs at least three times what this kit would cost, so I figured it was worth the risk to try. Right from the start I was very impressed with the test bench. It's strong and durable, has good rubber feet, the crank turns very smoothly (ball bearings on the lead spindle) and the bottom bracket slides very well. There's a lot of thick metal in this thing and it's well aligned. The sensor is comfortable enough for basic testing, and the settings menu isn't too terrible. It's big, which can cause some problems when trying to measure springs or flexible elements that move with a large offset. I caught myself flipping the sensor multiple times. It comes with some neat little attachments and is easy to assemble/add on your own. It uses M6 metric threads on all hooks, pokers and so on. Where I ran into a problem is in the software that came with it. I've posted the result at the top of this review so people can actually see it. I contacted Revain support and they sent another device which didn't help at all. I then saw the manufacturer's support email in the warranty card that came with it and contacted them. They were able to tell me what the various software bugs meant and point me to a CH340 equipped adapter and it eventually worked. I thank you for your help! All in all, I think I took a bit of a gamble by going for a very inexpensive solution, and with a bit of fiddling, it worked out great. Your mileage may vary, but this is pretty well built and works well for me. By the way, the second unit that Revain sent, which I'll be sending back in a moment, looked just as good. 4 stars because it's a hell of a deal for the features, not 5 because it took a bit of fiddling.
