The rotation speed comparison with a CNC machine was within 1% or better. I highly recommend spending the extra $10.

I bought this unit after returning a unit that was about $10 cheaper but didn't work. This device gives me a very accurate RPM reading when reading the spindle RPM on a CNC router equipped with a spindle encoder and RPM reading. The speed comparison with the CNC machine was within 1% or better. I highly recommend spending the extra $10 on this device.

Doesn't work, gives crazy readings

I tried it directly with my cordless drill. Used shiny tape and all, it either read nothing at all or said my drill was running at 87k rpm when it was at low speed. I thought that maybe the light is interfering, but I went into a completely dark room and saw the same thing: the drill read either 90,000 or 55,000 or 0 or about 1 try out of 10, it read right at 400rpm No Worky Worky, send back. Bought to test CNC spindle speed and it doesn't work at all.

Meaningful read failed. Sequential read failed.

The meter gave tens of thousands of different readings every time. This gave one possible real reading out of thirty trials, but that reading was three times the expected range of speeds. I turned off all lights and still have no meaningful results. All attempts were made with a black background and a strip of silver ribbon. I was trying to measure the speed of a 2.75 inch steel shaft rotating at a constant speed. I've tried all distances from 2" to 12" and gotten no meaningful readings. It was
