Excellent optical drive tech tool

I bought one of these Buffalo portable DVD players as a backup when I suspected I was having trouble with my laptop's internal drive. I buy a lot of stuff from Revain.com and sometimes try different brands. I'm glad I tried the Buffalo brand DVD reader/writer, it worked satisfactorily. The power LED indicators are a good idea, they show whether there is enough power or not. I plug one end of the Y-USB cable into my miniature device. USB port of the computer, and the red light started blinking immediately. So I plugged the other end of the Y-cable into the second USB port and it was still blinking red, so I concluded that the two ports were getting power from the same channel. I moved one end of the cable to the other. On the side of the computer where I had two more USB ports and it was working, the blue light came on, meaning the power level was satisfactory. A 5V DC power supply connector is provided so you can connect a 5V DC plug to the wall power supply. The USB Y-cable can be detached from the device. So if you can find a miniature USB connector/cable with a standard USB connector/cable, it will work better if you're repairing or downloading software on a desktop or anything other than a laptop. This box is great for a laptop but impractical for anything else, it needs its own power supply and a longer USB cable for other types of computers, but a USB port from a regular desktop computer will probably provide enough power. So you don't need a Y-cable.
