Tourney TX replaced on 3x8 hybrid bike

I just installed this on my Raleigh Cadent 2 to replace the horrible Tourney TX that it came with. At first I was confused by all the direct mount information. I thought I might need a custom hanger or an extra link. I learned that any derailleur that needs an extra link is included and you can use it depending on the type of suspension and the clearance you need for the largest cog. a bike with a 12-32t cassette, like my Raleigh. This bolted directly to the original hanger and all I had to do was tweak the B-limit a bit to increase the gap by about 0.5mm (maybe it didn't even need to be adjusted) and the limit screws HL plus indexing (barrel adjustment) shifting is now precise, quick and quiet. Since the cage on this Deore is about 1" longer than the Tourney TX it replaced, I decided to replace my chain with a new one, leaving an extra pair of links (actually, the Sram 830- I bought had chain not the right length). the box) I would guess if you keep your chain the tensioner will probably have enough freedom of movement to still work the range of possible chain lengths. I just assumed I needed a longer chain due to its apparent size and I don't see it sagging in any combination of gears so I think it's the right length. First check your bike. Many others report no problems maintaining the original chain length. The gear ratio is the same for all Shimano derailleurs with 9 gears and below. Although this Deore is designed for 9 gears, if you have an 8 speed like mine it will run with an 8 speed gearbox. The cage has enough space for an 8-speed chain, so no problem here either.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Minor issues
