I ordered a size 13 4E which I previously bought from New Balance although I don't remember which models I've bought over the years. This particular shoe has a narrower footprint than most other brands I've tried (including some New Balance), but it carries the 4E designation. My foot protrudes almost 1 inch out of the sole on either side (when pushing/walking) so I can't even imagine how narrow a standard shoe would be. I really hope they somehow put a standard pair of shoes in the wrong box. With any luck I might be able to shrink them soon because I accidentally rubbed them in and can't return them, but I know that when they finally shrink in the fabric, the fabric will soon tear because the shoe isn't wide enough room for my leg Very, very narrow for a 4E.
