I really liked the look of this submarine in the aquarium, it looks aesthetically pleasing, but the workmanship is very poor. The portholes are not smooth, they have very rough edges so my husband smoothed them out as best he could. The main opening is fine, but the smaller portholes are too small for an adult betta. This will probably work well with a young rooster or smaller fish no larger than a dime. I blame myself, I should have realized mine was too big, but I didn't think he would try to climb into a hole that was too small. At first we thought he was just "hanging out," until a few hours later we realized he hadn't moved. The poor guy was stuck in there. The plastic around the holes is pretty thick so it just couldn't come loose. It took us 1/2 hour to get him out (very stressful 1/2 hour) and we hope he's on the mend. We bought Bettafix and hope he is better and recovering. Poor thing's throat is so dry, I'm terribly sorry. Therefore, before buying, consider the size of your fish.
